After a full year of virtual learning, Alexandria City Public Schools plans to begin its phased reopening in March, ACPS Superintendent Dr. Gregory Hutchings Ed.D. announced at the Feb. 4 school board meeting. On March 2, students whose parents have opted for in-person learning in kindergarten through fifth grade who are receiving special education services along with English language learners are scheduled to return to campus. A new school project to help bring sustainable capacity relief for Shrevewood Elementary School and the Dunn Loring, Tysons, and Falls Church communities is on the way. On Jan. 5, in a vote of 10 to 0, with two members absent, the Fairfax County School Board approved a proposal presented by Karl Frisch, Providence District Representative, to use available bond funds to establish a school at the current Dunn Loring Administrative Center. Alexandria’s Commonwealth Academy creatively celebrated its class of 2020 with a drive-in ceremony on June 5 in the Potomac Yard parking lot. Head of School Anabelle Morgan said, “Commonwealth Academy’s 2020 graduating class is an outstanding group of young men and women who are moving on to do impressive things.
